Everything can be digitized, and digitalized. we live in a digitized and digitalized world today. Living, working, traveling has impacted tremendously all without even noticing how governments and businesses all over world are capturing our personal data of faces, finger prints, shapes, sizes at the point of entry, exit, using AI mother tongue language translation system (in Bahasa Malaysia in my case for all instructions) and also in all business portals and physical stores. Even all our passport data are collected and put into analytics.
Traveling also forces us to adopt these. Recently (early November 2025), I went to Hangzhou, China and they used e-wallets in most transactions including buying from stalls and restaurants that selling grilled beef sticks, equivalent to Malaysian beef/lamb satay. In public places, we are being digitally captured on video cameras. Any incidences can be easily traced. For traveling in China, you must also download Didi, AMAP, and e-wallet apps. (But, I brought some cash just in case e-method failed which coincidentally failed when trying to pay taxi ride from airport to hotel).
These are on top of what we have been using to such as roaming data on our mobile, now there is e-sim, the email accounts for work and life, Google accounts, our photos being uploaded on the cloud. and our movements traced in Timeline. This is on top of all the AI Technologies and all the Digital Technologies. VR/AR. Google Glasses. etc.
Turning the clock back when I was a boy during th 60s, there were no computers, gadegts. These snartphones came in duirng when I was 50s, duirng COVID in 2020, I upgraded my skill to learing all the video confereencing palstforms, ZOOM, Meet, Teams, versis the older Skype version pre-Covid.
What is coming in the future? Looking forward for more simplicity and exciting intelligent digiting systems and applications and cautious.
- Physical passport abolished
- Digitised identity documents – driving licence, national identity card, birth certificate – all kept in the cloud (or maybe outer space)
- No physical customs and immigration to physically check – just pass through a series of unmanned ‘digitised checekrs’ or/and scanners
- Banks may be replaced by Cloud Banks to cater for e-system with no more physical money
- Smart phone changed to all you can do toy
- Autonomous transporter – land and airdrone
- …..Feel free to continue this list…..
It looks scary since anyone in power of all these can ‘destroy’ our identity and make us digitally non-existence. and we will not be able to go anywhere, just staying in our own digital space and location. Wallahu ‘alam. May ALLAH protect us from all kinds of potentially evil doings and uncertainties…
