It is time of year to list up all accomplishments for this year that will end in few days time and to put up new resolutions for the coming year.
For a long term perspective, three areas that must be assessed are 1) work related, 2) society and family perspective, and 3) personal health, knowledge, skills, and spiritual perspective.
Work related items should be all contributions to the organization we work, especially in terms of responsibilities to deliver. And if the contributions have surpassed the promotions prospects, then one should assess whether one is on track or not that require improvements. Being on a contract with a private university in Japan with primarily teaching role, I am satisfied with all my small accomplishments in teaching. Together with that a small research (Toshiba) is almost completed conducted with UTM researchers. I also contributed as industrial advisory board for Master in Quality Engineering and Management programme UniKL MITEC PG, Visiting Professor for MJIIT UTM, and also a Ph.D. examiner for UiTM, and other academic responsibilities.
For society and family achievement, they are evaluated by oneself to check whether they are still actively engaged in activities with social groups, friends, and of course family. How many new friends have you gained this year, how many organizations are involved in voluntary work? Are you actively sharing your ideas, knowledge, wisdom and opinions in the different platforms digital or physical? My writings are plenty in FB under Shari M Yusof name. Do check it out. Are you still invited by organizations to give talks, and sharing sessions. Being an academic, I was able to be part of Schaeffler Group World Quality Day as invited talk, which I shared the quality award models frameworks for possible adoption. I was also invited to share my life experience to MJIIT staff as part of my role of Visiting Professor. Three different talks were given including one on Quality 4.0 Concepts. I gave a talk to FKM staff on Industry based research to be practiced by academics and not stuck with only theoretically based research. I also gave a talk online to share my life from Proton engineer to an academic to Final Year Mechanical Engineering student of UiTM Shah Alam. As usual, I also share with research students Meiji University. Ikuta Campus on special topic relating to supply chain. I love to share especially to those young budding engineers and academic.
The final area assessed is to measure your health, knowledge and self improvement. Yearly medical check is compulsory for those above 45, I believe. If you haven’t started , please do so. This year health check gave nothing major, only the usual areas for improvement of Blood Sugar level, cholesterol, and the fatty liver. I walk a lot this days and able for any distance possible without any kinds of pain or difficulty, Alhamdulillah. I can still do slow jogging or brisk walking, and cycling. Mental health are continuously enhanced by daily reading of the Quran, and this year in March me and wife performed umrah, after 5 years gap. and 2024 also marked 20 years having performed haj for me and wife. God is great. Time flies. I am also happy being blessed with another granddaughter in early November 2024. More books have been read such as Global SMEs Japan, TATA – The Company that Built Capitalism in India, and many more.
All in all, all perspectives, KPI achieved 100%,
Next year, resolutions…
- Health improvement through weight, diet, and blood sugar control
- Stay busy with new opportunities where possible
- Visit a country that is not new but not visited for quite long time
- Start planning for beyond 2027, ‘panjang umur, dengan izinNya’
