This week beginning 20 Sep 2021 is the start of Fall semester in Meiji University. I will be trying to introduce some new things that I have learned in Professor Christopher Stillwell https://www.linkedin.com/in/stillwellc/ EMI-UCI Workshop during this month. Classes online from UC Irvine with lecturers of Meiji. I have always known active learning but have not seriously used it. So, I am trying to unlearn, learn, relearn the tools and techniques that will make students much more engaged and active especially I am using English as the Medium of Instruction for those non-native English speakers. I teach to Japanese and other foreign students including Chinese in my classes.
I will try and use Google slides in the classes and break them in groups (breakrooms is good in Zoom and I have used them before). I can use jigsaw approach, and probably use much more Poll in ZOOM. Good luck to me. And to those starting their new semester of teaching.
I have also improved one of my course objectives (even experienced people makes mistake) changing to understand with to demonstrate. On top of that I have added in Oh-o Meiji! (Meiji’s Online TL Platform – in Nihongo) one sheet on Class Welcome and Guides, and How to Succeed in the subject – all based on the resources that Chris shared during his training on the course execution ideas.
